William Williams (1811) <Back to Anne Williams Family Tree> <Back to Main Family Tree>
William was born in Minehead, Somerset on 23rd January 1811, the second son of Thomas and Mary Williams, and was baptised on 17th February 1812.
As a young man he must have left Minehead and travelled to join the ever growing workforce of miners in the expanding South Wales minefields.
In 1833, at the age of 22, William married Rachel David (age 23) from Llanelly, west of Swansea.
By 1851 he was a collier living in Hengoed Hamlet, Llanelly with wife Rachel and seven children: Elizabeth(16); John(14); Henry(12); Hannah(9); Jane(7); Thomas(4); Harriet(1).
In the 1861 census he is recorded as an Overman of a Colliery, still living in Hengoed, Llanelly with Rachel, Thomas and Harriet.
The final census record appears in 1871 when, at the age of 60, William has become a Colliery Store Keeper, living in Brough, Llanelly with his wife Rachel and son Thomas, who is now an Iron works accountant.
In April 1883 Rachel died at the age of 73 in Llanelly.
