Anne - 22761, Schooner, 84 tons Register, Built 1846, Aberystwyth


The Anne was built by the major Aberystwyth ship builder of the 1840's John Evans.
On 14th March 1846 the Caernarvon & Denbigh Herald reported the launching:
"On Saturday week, there was launche from the slipway of Mr. John Evans, ship-builder, a fine modelled schooner, named Anne, burthen 140 tons, for the coasting trade, the property of Mr. William Watkins, of the schooner Providence, of this port. The morning being fine, an immense concourse of people assembled to witness the launch. At nine o'clock the shipwrights cleared the vessel, and when the last block was struck, she glided into the bosom of the river Rheidol amidst the cheers of the assembled multitude."

The captains included:
1855-61, Richard Watkins (b.1833, Aberystwyth, cert no. 13778)
1872, John Hughes (b.1819, Aberystwyth, cert. no. 79575) - Board of Trade Inquiry at Aberystwyth into the sinking of the "brig" in Fishguard Roads on 8 Dec 1872.
